Puddles and Wells

Updated: Oct 10

So often, I’ve watched the seas turn to puddles before me

Unable to quench my thirst

To satisfy my weary heart

Yet, I drain each one dry and turn to another

Forgetting the last sea that became a puddle so quickly

“This one will stay a sea,” I say

“Just for me.”

Yet I thirst and I thirst

And I drink and I drink

Becoming drunk and lost

Wandering in a desert

Struggling to find a new sea

Then

Your gentle hand reaches out and takes hold of mine

You lead me patiently to your well and share with me

For the first time, I feel

finished

My feet secure at your well

“I will never run dry,” you tell me

“Just for you.”
